Between the 24th and 26th of April 2025, the scholarship students Beatrice, Marissa, Mercy and Stephen went on a trip to Nairobi with me. Most of them had never been to their country’s capital before and therefore this was a truly valuable weekend.
Throughout the weekend, there were three main highlights. On Friday morning, we went for a tour at the United Nations Environment Program, where the students learnt about international opportunities within their country. Following a nyama-choma lunch, we visited the University of Nairobi , where the students got a hands-on inspiration for their academic future by entering the lecture halls and getting into conversations with current students. Finally, we climbed the Kenyatta International Convention Center to get an overview of this giant city. In the evenings we cooked together (pasta bolognaise & guacamole with patatas bravas), always failry splitting the tasks among each other.
For the details, I think it is best for you to hear about this experience from the students themselves. The floor is yours, boys and girls!

In between 24-26 April we visited Nairobi with the Alexander Feil Scholarship to learn and explore the city nature. I was very excited because I had never been to Nairobi before.
Our journey started early on the 24th from Ol Jogi, first taking the staff bus to Nanyuki. We arrived at Nanyuki around 11:30 am. So at 12:00 pm we went to Swahili dishes in Nanyuki and took our lunch there. We ate viazi karai, chips, rice and drinks. It was my first time to try viazi karai. After we finished our lunch we went to Nairobi stage and boarded a matatu to Nairobi. On the way we saw many things like universities, a lot of people and buildings. When we reached at the super highway, I was astonished. It was like a surprise. I was scared. It was dark and within a second we reached the other side of the road and there was light. When we reached at Nairobi town we stepped off the matatu and walked down to Ngara where were were going to stay. We reached there with no time. We entered, took our luggage off and relaxed for some time.
We went to the super market to buy something for dinner and soon started preparing for supper. We made pasta with beef. We served it and we ate. After that Marissa and Mercy cleared the table and washed the utensils while I was watching TV.
After they finished, Stephen and Marissa were ironing their clothes. And after that they went to sleep. We were left with Mercy while watching TV. When It was 12am, Mercy went to sleep and I was left alone.
I stayed until in the morning. They woke up and Alex prepared breakfast for us while we were bathing. After that we came and took our breakfast. Once we finished eating, we went to the UNEP that day we were going to see how is it. We reached there within no time.
We entered to the reception and we were accepted to enter in. We waited for the guide to come. Then he came and introduced himself. At UNEP I saw the assembly and learned how people worked there. I especially liked the part about African history. I was interested and happy asking the guide questions. It made me want to learn even more about Kenya’s history.
Altogether this taught me many new things and made me curious about the world. I hope we can go on more trips like this.

My report is about the trip where we to Nairobi with my fellow students, our beloved Alexander Feil. We went on that trip during the holiday. It was really a fantastic and interesting trip because all of us we enjoyed it a lot.
In Nairobi, we visited different places: UNEP (United Nations Environment Program), we visited the KICC and finally we went to the Nairobi University. They are really nice places and we are really happy and glad. The reason for this is that we didn’t visit these places before. Also we enjoyed some different dishes from different countries and they were so delicious.
We learnt lessons like the year that the United Nations started and also the year that it was established. Also we learnt different flags in the world and their maximum number. Also we learnt that there were two countries in Africa that were not colonised.
Mercy
My most memorable moment in Nairobi: I really liked the foods we were eating there. I liked the place where we were sleeping, I wished that was our home. I liked everything at that house that we were using. I wish I could just stay there for my entire holiday. I even liked the visit that we did to UNEP and KICC, I liked all those places where we went.
What I have learnt from the trip is how big and large the Nairobi city is. I really realised that Nairobi is so very dirty and it has many slums in it. I learnt when we were up on the KICC that you can have a view over all Nairobi. I have learnt that Nairobi has very high buildings. Even I have learnt that the UN was formed to stop fighting war in the world. And the UNEP was started the time the second world war ended, which was started by the people of Germany.
The trip helped me and gave me hopes of focusing on my studying so that when I finish my study and become a teacher I would like to work in Nairobi city. Then I would have a sweet life and know more about my city. The trip gave me hopes and has helped me to put more effort into my academics.

It was on 24th of April, we went to Nairobi to visit UNEP and to learn more about Nairobi. We went with Alexander, Marissa, Beatrice, Mercy and myself.
On that day I was very excited to go to Nairobi.I remember when we prepared pasta: me, you and Beatrice on that day that we arrived at Nairobi. On the next day I learnt a lot at UNEP, like if there is something wrong in any country, they stay together to solve the problem at UNEP. I remember when Alexander asked me “how many flags do you know in the world?”, I said I can name twenty flags, and Alexander promised me an Oreo and I named twenty-seven flags and I got an Oreo. That was my happy day in Nairobi.
I was very happy when we cooked guacamole for dinner and invited Sarah, a friend of Alex’, for dinner. I liked the supper and the sparkling juice that we were struggling to open. I was also very happy that I helped Alexander that people were selling things to him with Mzungu price.
I would like to say thank you very much Alexander for your support and the love you have shown to us.
I LOVE YOU ALEXANDER.
