On Saturday, the 14th of June, 12 of the Ol Jogi Chess Club students went to the Three Rivers School to participate in the Nanyuki Checkmate Rumble. We went to that tournament for the first time in October 2024 and our best results back then were 4 points out of 6 rounds. This time around, we took home three trophies.
In the unter 14 category, Willi got 1st place with a perfect score of 6 out of 6 games won. Wilkister became best girl in the U12 category with 4 out of 6 points, Peter Akweny became second best in the U12 overall and Stacy 3rd best girl in the U14 girls.
William
My first game was very easy. My second and the third game were easyest. But my fourth game was hard because I was playing with my schoolmate David. After a long fight I won the game.
My fifth game was very hard because I was playing with a guy from the internationals in Mombasa, where he got 6 out of 9 points. For a long time he was winning our game. But I saw that if your game takes longer than usual, you will be given the timer. And that guy was thinking a lot, when his timer got to three minutes he couldn’t adjust to the speed and his time was used up. I won that game.
My sixth game was even harder. He was one move away from checkmating me, but checked him, he moved with the king, I promoted my pawn and checkmated him. That is how I won the trophy.
